Helping Hands of Midland has received an anonymous offer of $100,000 in matching funds to help those impacted by the ongoing coronavirus outbreak.

The donation couldn’t be better timed, Helping Hands Executive Director Mary Hardin told the Midland Reporter-Telegram. A long-time supporter who chose to remain anonymous made the donation when the outlook was not the brightest for Helping Hands. The charity had been forced to close its thrift shop and there was no money coming in. There was a fear it would run out of funding until a phone call from the good Samaritan offering the generous pledge.

Since then, Helping Hands has received $30,000 in donations. With the Midland workforce projected to be among the hardest hit in a coronavirus-fueled recession, all help is greatly needed and appreciated, Hardin said.

Helping Hands is faith-based and all-volunteer. Donations are used to help the unemployed, sick and elderly.
