Both high- and low-ranking officials in Midland recently attended a coronavirus roundtable discussion.

The goal of the meeting was to discuss the readiness and preparedness of West Texas for coronavirus, according to a report on YourBasin.com.

"The main reason we had a meeting today was to call all the relevant entities together from the city, the county, the health department, the public school -- from all over the area, all who are concerned with public safety -- and make sure we're all on the same page with our responses to this coronavirus and make sure we all understand the dynamics of what's taking place and be sure we're on the same page for what we're telling people to do and how we're responding to it," Midland Mayor Patrick Payton told YourBasin.com.

"Midland is at no greater risk than anybody else as long as we're just taking care of ourselves and (practicing) basic hygiene and cleanliness and not panicking, really."

Payton cautioned that if residents are feeling ill, they should not go to a doctor's office, hospital or emergency care facility.

"Go to your home and then contact a medical professional," he said.

If your doctor's office isn't available by phone or email, Payton recommended contacting 68Nurse.com for medical advice.
